Worldcoin Expands to Singapore, Continues Global Growth

Worldcoin, the identity verification project co-created by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, has recently launched its services in Singapore, following a temporary halt in operations in India. This expansion comes after the release of World ID 2.0 and the open-sourcing of the Worldcoin iris recognition pipeline. As part of its growth strategy, Worldcoin has also partnered with prominent startup and technology associations in Singapore, further solidifying its presence in the country.

In Singapore, individuals can now verify their “unique humanness” using an Orb device provided by Worldcoin. This innovative technology scans users’ irises to confirm their identity, rewarding them with WLD tokens for participating in the protocol. Alongside the launch of World ID verifications in Singapore, Tools for Humanity (TFH), a project contributor, has joined two well-known startup and technology associations in the country: ACCESS and the Singapore Fintech Association (SFA). These partnerships strengthen Worldcoin’s network and provide additional support for its initiatives in Singapore.

Worldcoin’s global presence continues to grow as it expands its identity verification services to various countries. Apart from Singapore, World ID verifications are now available in 11 nations, including Spain, Germany, South America, and Japan. Recently, cities like Sevilla and Bilbao in Spain, Cologne and Leipzig in Germany, and Concepcion, Curico, Viña del Mar, and Santiago in Chile joined the expanding list of locations offering World ID verifications. Additionally, Fukuoka in Japan has been added to the list, with new options in Tokyo as well.

Worldcoin’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, with millions of users engaging with their services. According to Tools for Humanity (TFH), over five million accounts have been created, positioning Worldcoin as the fifth most widely used hot wallet globally alongside the Bitcoin.com wallet in 2023. The World App, which facilitates transactions and interactions within the Worldcoin ecosystem, boasts 1.7 million monthly active users and has processed over 30 million transactions to date.

While Worldcoin’s expansion has been impressive, it was not without setbacks. The project temporarily paused its Orb verification services in India to address the overwhelming demand and ensure a secure and organized registration process. Meanwhile, registration services in Brazil and France were discontinued after a limited preview phase. Worldcoin plans to relaunch in Brazil and France with a more extensive rollout in 2024, demonstrating its commitment to refining and expanding its services.

Worldcoin’s recent expansion into Singapore represents a significant milestone in its mission to provide secure and decentralized identity verification solutions. The project’s partnership with startup and technology associations in Singapore, along with its growing network of verification locations globally, underscore its dedication to advancing the adoption of World ID. With millions of users already engaging with Worldcoin’s services, the project is positioned for continued growth and success in the evolving landscape of identity verification.
