The “Get Based” Series: OpenSea’s Latest Initiative

OpenSea has recently launched a new initiative known as the “Get Based” series. This series is designed to shine a spotlight on artists who are creating on Coinbase’s Base network, which is an Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) solution. The main goal of the “Get Based” series is to highlight the works of up to 15 artists during the summer months.

The first drop in the series will feature a reimagined artwork inspired by the iconic “Endless Summer” film, created by Carty Sewill, who not only is an artist but also an employee at OpenSea. The weekly drops in the series will be accessible on OpenSea’s website and Farcaster, a social media protocol. These drops will offer open edition NFTs priced at $5 or less, with some even being offered for free.

Confirmed artists who will be participating in the “Get Based” series include Jhekub, the creator of RGB Punks; Hun, the creator of “Primitives”; Cryptic Poet, a meme artist; Yiying Lu, the creator of Twitter’s “Fail Whale”; Subwway, an illustrator; and Thank You Base God, who recently successfully conducted a free Base NFT mint on OpenSea, resulting in over 181,000 total mints.

In recent times, OpenSea has been placing a greater emphasis on the Coinbase’s Base network. Unlike other well-known layer-1 chains like Ethereum mainnet or Solana, Base is an emerging chain that is constantly developing high-value collections. By showcasing these artists and their work on the Ethereum L2 network, OpenSea’s objective is to introduce collectors to the Base network and support artists operating within this ecosystem.

OpenSea facilitates the bridging of assets to Base, allowing users to make purchases using fiat currency and credit cards through MoonPay integration. The “Get Based” series will coincide with Base’s “On-Chain Summer II” promotion, starting on June 3. This promotion entails over 600 ETH (approximately $2.3 million) in prizes, incentives, and gas credits available across a range of projects and protocols, aiming to further enhance engagement within the Base network.

By providing accessible entry points for collectors and highlighting talented artists, OpenSea’s “Get Based” series endeavors to promote broader expansion and growth within the Base network. This initiative is a significant contribution to the overall advancement of the Web3 and NFT ecosystem. Through these efforts, OpenSea is actively working towards fostering a more interconnected and vibrant community within the NFT space.
